IAPH Africa/Europe Regional Meeting in Hamburg to Highlight WPCI Projects
The International Association of Ports & Harbors (IAPH) is dedicating one day out of its upcoming three-day Africa/Europe Regional Meeting to the World Ports Climate Initiative (WPCI) and its efforts to reduce green house gas emissions and improve air quality.
The WPCI member ports that volunteered to be project ports will showcase their Projects in Progress at the meeting scheduled on November 16-18, 2009, in Hamburg, Germany.
Hosted by Hamburg Port Authority, the regional meeting will focus on four of the six Projects in Progress by hearing from representatives of the ports responsible for the projects on the last day, November 18. The four will be
- Carbon footprinting (Port of Los Angeles)
- Environmental Ship Index (Port of Rotterdam)
- On-shore Power Supply (Port of Gothenburg)
- Intermodal Transport (Port of Amsterdam)
More information about WPCI’s Projects in Progress, including the two additional projects (Lease Agreement Template and Cargo-Handling Equipment), can be found here.
The mission of the World Ports Climate Initiative is to:
- Raise awareness in the port and maritime community of need for action
- Initiate studies, strategies and actions to reduce GHG emissions and improve air quality
- Provide a platform for the maritime port sector for the exchange of information thereon
- Make available information on the effects of climate change on the maritime port environment and measures for its mitigation
