EPA Finalizes the Nation’s First Greenhouse Gas Reporting; System/Monitoring to Begin in 2010

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced a new program that will help in the fight against climate change. Beginning January 1, 2010, the EPA will, for the first time, require large emitters of heat-trapping emissions to begin collecting greenhouse gas (GHG) data under a new reporting system.

Maersk Line has announced that it will implement a program to change its chassis fleet business model in the U.S., reducing the company’s carbon footprint. Maersk Line will offer its chassis for use throughout the U.S. to draymen, ocean carriers, marine terminals and railroads, reducing the number of chassis changes.

National Waterways Foundation Produces Research on Greenhouse Gas Emissions

Acting for the National Waterways Foundation (NWF), the Center for Ports and Waterways at the Texas Transportation Institute has amended its 2007 study, "A Modal Comparison of Freight Transportation Effects on the General Public" to include a comparison of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions between inland river barge transportation, highway and rail transportation.
